Task 5: Evaluate the response
Learning Outcome: Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions (D1)
Feedback:
After i had finished my presentation, the client offered me constructive feedback that would help me figure out how to make the best possible magazine and how it could target my target audience.
Firstly, the client asked me if i just wanted to be limited to 'acoustic' music meaning with no backing at all. He mentioned that this would go against me and limit my target audience massively. Therefore we both agreed it would be better to say Acoustic and instrumental music (e.g. the likes of Ed Sheeran, although it is acoustic, he uses a loop pedal to create his music live on stage).
He liked my article idea for 'what bars/pubs/restaurants to go to before/ after a gig' and 'what to wear to a gig' as he thought that it would attract my target audience and is a good way to interact with the customers on a personal level, giving them suggestions and making their life easier by already having venues for them to go to before and after a gig.
He also suggested that i need to come up with a set price for my magazine and to make the price much clearer to the customer. This is so that i can start thinking about budget, also it made me think about how i can enter raffles, prizes and promotions in the magazine copies once they have started to cost money (as first 2 copies are free). He also said that i should only think about the first copy to be free, as 2 or more may be too much and overpowering, this may make the client think that it is unprofessional. The client also mentioned how he liked how i thought about my colour scheme and he understands that background to it, however he feels like it creates more of a 'rock' feel rather than 'acoustic'. After looking at my sample pages he compared it to a 'rock' magazine, which again does go completely against my theme.
Feedback i agree with:
- The colour scheme:
Although i do disagree in the terms of i am happy with my colour scheme because i feel like the colours convey worth and a welcome feel, i do agree that my front cover and double page spread do look a bit 'rocky'. He said that i should think about my font as it is too bold and that i need to have a softer font, which i do agree with and will take into consideration. To overcome this i will change the front cover font to something less bold and overpowering, i will also change the font of all the writing on both front cover and double page spread. I will think about changing colours such as black and grey to yellow and blue so that it will just 'lift' the magazine pages up and give it less of a rocky feel.
Feedback i don't agree with:
- The price:
He said that i should only think about the first copy to be free, as 2 or more may be too much and overpowering, this may make the client think that it is unprofessional. I do agree with this because we need to make an income and also giving 2 issues free could be a major loss, however Personally, for myself i have to read about 2 copies of a magazine before i properly get to know whether i am interested in it or not. In conclusion i do agree that i need to come up with a set price for my magazine so that i have a better image as to what my budgeting would look like and whether i will be able to break even or not.
